It’s finally done.
I found this $20 headboard {talked down from $25} on Craigslist back at the end of September.
Our dear friends {the ones who helped us clean} took a drive out to Mt. Arlington with us – in the rain – to drag this home. I’m pretty sure everyone thought I was crazy. But it all paid off.
I turned this –
Into this –
My diamond tufted masterpiece.
{Ignore the bedding. Remember my bedding indecision? Nothing new has been purchased. We’re making do with what we have for now.}
With 33 hand-covered buttons, this puppy took me FOREVER to finish.
Speaking of puppies, Bruce hopped up {on his own} and decided he needed to model for the camera.
Yes! Work it. Show me a pensive longing stare.
Quick! There’s a squirrel outside the window. You want it.
Yes. Love it. Good. Now turn and look back over your shoulder.
Now show me peaceful and cute; snuggling your toy.
Yah. Good. You’re totally working it.
I think he likes it. Or at least likes having his picture taken.

and i hate covering buttons. with a passion. last time i tricked the husband into doing it for me cause i told him he could use a hammer and it was “manly”.

Oh, wow. You have some vision there. I would have looked right over the original headboard, but your DIY is amazing! How did you make the buttons? One of those sucky button making kits, or something better and easier? There’s a fabric shop in the town where I used to live that would make covered buttons for $1 each. I wonder if they still do that.

It is lovely!!!! I think it was smart of you to wait and buy the bedding. Now that the headboard is finished you can truely get a feel of where you want to go (look wise) in your bedroom. You will find your bedding soon, I can feel it :).

Have you thought more about the bedding? I’d love to see the final product. Although you could put a pleather sleeping bag on that bed and it would still be gorgeous with that headboard!

Never fear! There will be SEVERAL tutorials coming. I’ve already posted how I retrofitted the wood frame and covered the buttons.
In the coming week(s) there will be posts about how I actually did the tufting & put it all together. When it’s all up, I’ll update this post with all those links. And maybe I’ll even submit the project to Design*Sponge. Wouldn’t that be a hoot?!
