A Diamond Tufted Headboard

It’s finally done.

I found this $20 headboard {talked down from $25} on Craigslist back at the end of September.

Our dear friends {the ones who helped us clean} took a drive out to Mt. Arlington with us – in the rain – to drag this home. I’m pretty sure everyone thought I was crazy. But it all paid off.

I turned this –

Into this –

My diamond tufted masterpiece.

{Ignore the bedding. Remember my bedding indecision? Nothing new has been purchased. We’re making do with what we have for now.}

With 33 hand-covered buttons, this puppy took me FOREVER to finish.

Speaking of puppies, Bruce hopped up {on his own} and decided he needed to model for the camera.

Yes! Work it. Show me a pensive longing stare.

Quick! There’s a squirrel outside the window. You want it.

DSC_0929

Yes. Love it. Good. Now turn and look back over your shoulder.

Now show me peaceful and cute; snuggling your toy.

DSC_0829

Yah. Good. You’re totally working it.

I think he likes it. Or at least likes having his picture taken.

What about you? Do you like your picture taken?

And – HEY! What about this headboard?? Worth the wait? Or is does the dog steal the show?

  16. Brandi says:

The headboard is wonderful — it’s so old-fashioned glamorous. And Bruce? Really the perfect model.

  17. Oh, wow. You have some vision there. I would have looked right over the original headboard, but your DIY is amazing! How did you make the buttons? One of those sucky button making kits, or something better and easier? There’s a fabric shop in the town where I used to live that would make covered buttons for $1 each. I wonder if they still do that.

It is lovely!!!! I think it was smart of you to wait and buy the bedding. Now that the headboard is finished you can truely get a feel of where you want to go (look wise) in your bedroom. You will find your bedding soon, I can feel it :).

  26. Jeannine says:

Seriously, SERIOUSLY, you blew my mind! I mean, I can’t believe you were able to do that yourself! Not that you’re not amazing, but whoa.

Have you thought more about the bedding? I’d love to see the final product. Although you could put a pleather sleeping bag on that bed and it would still be gorgeous with that headboard!

  29. Jamie Lee says:

This is AMAZING!!! I just found your blog through Meg’s blog House Notes. I am completely in love with this project! Great job!

  30. Lacy says:

  31. Gorgeous! Wow you did a great job, I love it!!!!
    I want it!

  32. Great job! You should submit that to Design Sponge or someplace. I would’ve loved to see some pictures on how you did the fabric part of this project.

  33. All your comments are making me glow!!! Thank you thank you thank you! I appreciate each & every one of you for taking the time to comment. LOVE.

Never fear! There will be SEVERAL tutorials coming. I’ve already posted how I retrofitted the wood frame and covered the buttons.

In the coming week(s) there will be posts about how I actually did the tufting & put it all together. When it’s all up, I’ll update this post with all those links. And maybe I’ll even submit the project to Design*Sponge. Wouldn’t that be a hoot?!

Thank you, again! Y’all rock my socks.

  34. Tania says:

You crack me up!!! Your dog is so cute and yes, he really seemed to be posing and modeling for the camera! And that headboard… that’s to die for! I love it! I just picked up an old gold padded headboard at my local Goodwill for $14.00 and you have inspired me with your tufted headboard!
